スピーチ｜ミーガン・ラピノー「私たちのチームにはいろんな人間がいる」女子サッカーW杯優勝パレード

女子サッカー史上、最多4度目のワールドカップ優勝を成し遂げたアメリカチームが現地時間の7月10日、ニューヨーク市庁舎前で凱旋パレードと表彰セレモニーを行いました。

このとき披露されたキャプテン、ミーガン・ラピノー選手のスピーチが、かなりの話題となっています。

ハワイに住んでる友達の周りでもこのスピーチが話題になったとのこと！

恥かしながら、ミーガン選手のことは、このニュースで知ったのですが、

男子サッカーと女子サッカーの間にある大きな賃金格差について平等になるよう是正を求めたり、アフリカ系のアメリカ人男性2人が警官に射殺された事件をきっかけに、国歌斉唱の際に起立せずにひざをつき抗議の意を示したり、トランプ大統領の女性差別や移民差別、そして多様性を否定するような発言に対立したり、さまざまな言動をしてきていることを知りました。また、自身が同性愛者だということも公表しています。

英語の勉強しているし、せっかくだから日本語に訳してみようと思ったのですが…力不足でした(涙

語句表現がわからないところは調べればなんとかなると思うんですが、そもそもミーガン選手のこと、女子サッカーのこと、アメリカのことなど、ちゃんと訳すには、知らなければいけない背景が多すぎたので、今回は諦めました。

通訳の人はそういった文化や時事ネタも知っていなければいけないと思うと、すごい職業だなと思いますね...ただ、自分もネイティブと英語でやりとりするならある程度は知っておかなければいけないことだと思いますが…(反省)

とりあえず、今回は英語の原稿（間違っていたらすみません。ところどころ自信なし）と、メディアなどでよく取り上げられている、スピーチのハイライトの部分の訳だけ載せることにします。

Let's go, New York City.  I see. Alright here if I see everyone in the distance as well.  Hello Batman.  This is crazy, this is absolutely insane.  Such at a loss for words, I mean, I'll find them don't worry, 

But ridiculous first and foremost my teammates, just shout out to the teammates.  Just everybody.  “This group is so resilient, is so tough, has such a sense of humor, is just so badass.  There’s nothing nothing that can faze this group. We’re chillin’. We got tea sippin’.  We got celebrations.   We have pink hair and purple hair. We have tattoos and dreadlocks.  We got white girls and black girls, and everything in between.  Straight girls and gay girls. Hey!  I couldn’t be more proud to be a co-captain with Carli [Lloyd] and Alex [Morgan] with this team.  It is my absolute honor to lead this team out on the field. 

まず何よりも、私の最高のチームメイトたちへ。彼女たちに盛大な歓声と拍手を送ってください。このチームは絶対に折れないし、めちゃくちゃタフで、ユーモアのセンスいっぱいで、みんな最高にいいやつ。何があってもビクビクしないし、一緒にいて落ち着くし、まったり茶をすすることもあれば、お祭り騒ぎもできる。ピンクの髪も、紫の髪もいれば、タトゥーも、ドレッドヘアもいる。白人も、黒人も、その他のありとあらゆる人がいる。ストレートの女の子も、ゲイガールもいる。カーリー（ロイド選手）とアレックス（モーガン選手）と一緒にキャプテンを務められたことは、私にとって何よりの誇りです。このチームをピッチで率いることができたことは、最大の名誉でした。

There’s no other place that I would rather be — even in the presidential race. I’m busy, I’m sorry.”  To the staff, to the coaching staff the technical staff,   to the medical staff, to the support staff, to the massage therapist, to the videographers, to the chef chef team, to our security, to comedian people, thank you so much.   You make our job so easy.  We don't want to focus on anything other than what we have to do on the field.   Thank you for that to the Federation Carlos, thank you.  You were incredible this World Cup.  I know that you got a little stick when you were up here Couple champs.  I think that's a sign of infection though. Right?

Like everybody gets booed, everybody in the position of power gets booed.  I'm honest stick my neck out there a little bit.  I'm gonna endorse Carlos I think he's with us.   I think he's on the right side of things. I think he's gonna make things right?  He's proven.  He's proven every day since he's been in office for us.  That he's with us. He was with us every single day of the World Cup.  Not only from just a personal standpoint how much that means to us, but just from an outlook standpoint and all the eyes looking in this man was there he was in the tunnel

Every single game he was celebrating every single game.  We appreciate that.  Thank you.  We look forward to holding those feet to the fire.  To the mayor's office well as you know, this is our second time around. A beautiful wife.  Thank you for hosting us.  Also to the governor Cuomo it's how I think you pronounce it, right?  Thank you so much for hosting us.  To the NYPD, to the fire department here, to everyone who made this happen, thank you so much.   It's not possible without everyone.  We really do appreciate all that it takes to shut down the biggest best city in the world.  For the biggest best team in the world.  Thank you for that that means the world to us.

I think I'll just end with this.  This is my charge to everyone: We have to be better.  We have to love more, hate less. 　We gotta listen more and talk less.  We gotta know that this is everybody’s responsibility.  Every single person here, every single person who’s not here, every single person who doesn’t want to be here, every single person who agrees and doesn’t agree. It’s our responsibility to make this world a better place.  I think this team does an incredible job of taking that on our shoulders and understanding the position that we have and the platform that we have in this world. 

最後に伝えたいことがあります。これは私がみなさんに伝えなくてはいけないことだと思います。私たちはもっと努力をしないといけません。もっと愛を持って、憎しみを減らして。もっとしっかり相手の声に耳を傾けて、喋りたい気持ちを抑えて。これはみんなの責任だと認識しなければなりません。ここにいる人も、ここにいない人も、ここにいたくない人も、賛成の人も、反対の人も、全員がこの世界をより良くするための責任を負っていることを、私たちは知らなければいけません。このチームはそれを背負い、自分たちの立場や影響力を考えながら、頑張ってきと思います。

Yes, we play sports. Yes, we play soccer. Yes, we’re female athletes.  But we’re so much more than that.  You’re so much more than that!  You’re more than a fan.  You’re more than someone who just supports sports.  You’re more than someone who tunes in every four years.  You’re someone who walks these streets every single day.  You interact with your community every single day.  How do you make your community better?  How do you make the people around you better? Your family, your closest friends, the 10 closest people to you, the 20 closest people to you, the 100 closest people to you.   It’s every single person’s responsibility.

私たちはスポーツ選手です。サッカー選手です。女性アスリートです。でも私たちは、もっとそれ以上の存在です。そして、あなたも、もっとそれ以上の存在です。皆さんは、ただのファンではありません。ただスポーツを応援するだけの人たちではありません。4年に1度、テレビを観るだけの人ではありません。皆さんは毎日この道を歩き、毎日このコミュニティと生きている人たちです。あなたの周りの人のために何ができるでしょうか？家族のため、親しい人のため、親しい10人のため、親しい20人のため、親しい100人のため、周りの人のために何ができるでしょうか？一人一人に、この責任があるのです。

There's been so much contention in these last years.  I've been a victim of that.   I've been a perpetrator of that without fight with the Federation.  Sorry for some of the things I said. Not all of the things.  But it's time to come together.   This conversation is that the next step.  We have to collaborate. It takes everybody.

この数年、たくさんの論争がありました。私もその被害にあいました。協会との対立では、時には私がその原因でもありました。私の発言で謝りたいこともありますが、そうではないこともあります。ただ、今こそ団結するときなんです。この会話こそが次のステップなのです。協力をしなければなりません。みんなで。

This is my charge to everybody: Do what you can.  Do what you have to do.  Step outside yourself.  Be more, be better, be bigger than you’ve ever been before.  If this team is any representation of what you can be when you do that, please take this as an example. This group is incredible.  We took so much on our shoulders to be here today to celebrate with you today.  And we did it with a smile.  So do the same for us?  Please, I ask you

これが私から皆さんへのお願いです。自分にできることをやってください。やらなければいけないことをやってください。挑戦してください。より多く、より良く、今までの自分よりも大きくなってください。私たちは今日この場で皆さんとお祝いをするために、たくさんのものを背負ってきました。それも、笑顔で。だから私たちのために、皆さんもそうであってください。どうかお願いです。
